League History
Since 1979, Western Missouri Soccer League ( WMSL ) has been the backbone of soccer in the Northland area. WMSL started as a fledgling organization of approximately 100 players founded by four parents who felt that there were no formal means or facilities for their children to be trained and to compete in the sport of soccer.
WMSL provides the structure for youth soccer from U6 through U19, both
boys and girls. Players who found their beginning with WMSL have played
in Missouri State High School championships and many have found college
scholarships. Currently, with over 2,000 players, coaches and
administrators, WMSL is one of the largest soccer leagues in the Greater
Kansas City area and in the state of Missouri.
WMSL is pleased to see the growth of soccer in the Northland community
and the growth of the players from its organization. Youth soccer is the
largest and the fastest growing youth sport in the United States. WMSL
is also experiencing this growth. To meet the needs of our League and
our community, WMSL has purchased 96 acres at the southwest corner of
I-435 and 76th St. between Gladstone and Liberty. We currently have 12
fields to accommodate all the age divisions in the league. It is our
intent to create a premier facility right here in the Northland.
