CAMP GOAL
To assist young goalkeepers in becoming fundamentally sound in the
goalkeeping position. We want each keeper to improve his/her skills and
learn new skills that will strengthen them as a goalkeeper.
CAMP PROGRAM
To provide this comprehensive program, we will cover each and every aspect
of goalkeeping that keepers may encounter from game to game. Each
goalkeeper will be instructed on: basic catching of different types of
shots or crosses, covering and scooping ground balls, communication with
defenders, penalty kick tactics, 1v1 tactics and when the keeper should
come out to challenge forwards, setting up a wall when a free kick is
awarded, punching and clearing balls in mid-air with proper technique
emphasized, diving to make that “impossible” save, drills to improve one’s
diving and leaping abilities, distribution (punting and throwing), reading
and adapting to offensive attacks, cutting down angles so as to make
difficult shots easier, and many other aspects of the goalkeeping
position.
CAMP DIRECTOR
Chris Lawson, head soccer coach at Rockhurst High School, former assistant
